THE DISTANCE
Louis is excited to announce the name of his personal project, The Distance—a photographic study of amateur boxing in coastal parts of the UK. This project highlights exceptionally talented fighters who may be overlooked due to their geographical location but continue to push forward despite the challenges of training in rural and coastal areas. With limited access to facilities, quality sparring, and funding, these athletes often travel long distances to find the right opportunities—both in and out of the ring.
The title, The Distance, reflects not only the miles they must cover to pursue their dreams but also their determination to “go the distance” in boxing itself, overcoming every round, setback, and challenge. Alongside images of the boxing community, the book also features vast landscapes and open coastlines to illustrate the fighters’ surroundings.
Through photography and interviews, Louis will be self-publishing a book at the end of the year and has gathered an extensive collection of content that he is eager to share. Additional work will be released soon, with the main body of the project set to be announced in the coming months.
He is also thrilled to have his good friend, Seb Powell, contributing the writing to help bring the project to life.
